I don't think it means that at all.  Although I think it's interesting that he states that it's not a prequel, and only contains the barest hints of ALIEN DNA yet the leaked trailer smacks of "ALIEN Prequel"

I think 'not a prequel' means 'not an Alien film' which translates as 'this isn't a film where one or more Aliens run around killing people like in the others you may have seen - this is something entirely different.' 

I also think it means 'you really don't need to have seen any of the Alien films for this to make sense - but if you have, bonus!'

I can't tell you how long I've waited for one of those!!! 

The soundtrack on Bloody Disgusting is the full version of the leaked version, I presume (although I may be wrong), so the alien connection should remain present. What we know: It's a story set in the same universe, about a presumed first contact between humans and Space Jockeys, whether there are any actual Alien aliens in it is inconsequential for me, tbh, I just want a great story that makes me want to watch it again.

I'm leaning towards that opinion also. I just want some awesome Sci-Fi again. I really miss the 70's/80's era sci-fi and horror movies.

Which is the kind of sequel/spinoff I had hoped for back in 97 after AR met with poor reviews.  The possibilities there are endless, and doesn't rely in re-occurring characters to tie it to the source material.
