There's absolutely no sodding way I'm getting up at four in the morning and trudging up a hill to see Venus in transit. Even without the knowledge that it'll be summer and thus overcast with a 95% chance of rain!

FUNNY STORY, BRO! No really, I LOL'ed. Kinda let down though. A board about a piece of cinematic SciFi brilliance, and no one gives a fuck about seeing Venus, LIVE! I expected more around here. I will go see it. Likelly go blind. Then I can say I went blind from watching Venus and looking at the sun, sans from jacking off and beating my dolphin to death nightly for years. Or, I will get drunkand forget... it is on June 6 th afterall...

Hey, I see Venus, LIVE!, plenty of nights. But I'm always kinda reluctant to see the sun at dawn, partial transit or not.

It's difficult to share my thouhts and sights on a forum board. It's really cold here, but we have the clearest sky. We see a lot with the naked eye: Saturn is visible, like, every night! Come on over and make snow angels while looking at the sky, then we can talk "astronomy". Can you even see the sky in China? I think it's way too bright with artificial light and way too polluted for you to worry for your eyes when looking at the sun.

Mmm...snow angels.
Yes we can see the sun and the sky in Shanghai. Some days are much better than others of course.
On June 6th I might be at home. Or in July more likely. Of course come June 6th I might be in the Sudan working private security there, guarding Chinese workers in the work compounds. I,d rather not, but I go where the dollars are.
But yes, today for example the sunshine is brilliant.

Sorry abourt that, it is a Shanghai Daily newspaper article on Venus transiting across the sun on June 6th. Am sure you can find it anywhere. I read the China and Shanghai Daily's everyday, so my news is limited. Other than what I peruse on the netwebz. But I like old fashioned newspaper ink staining my fingers in the morning.

Sounds interesting! But I have no optical filters with which I can look at the sun. Oh well, I see Venus, Jupiter, Mars and Saturn most nights lately (in that order, from west to east), so it's been a good winter, planetwise! I need to save for a better telescope.
