NECA Obtains Rights to Prometheus and A:CM Toys
« on: February 12, 2012, 04:40:22 PM »

From Bloody-Disgusting:

In addition to making action figures based on Ridley Scott's Prometheus, NECA is heading into James Cameron territory as they announced at Toy Fair rights to a slew of new sci-fi horror toys.

First up, we'll finally see a "Kyle Reese" (played by Michael Biehn) action figure based on the 1984 The Terminator.

NECA has also announced a new Aliens "Warrior" featuring more articulation and removable limbs.

Lastly, the toy company will release a line based on the forthcoming video game "Aliens: Colonial Marines". In development by Gearbox Software, it is to be published by Sega for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360. The game is a first-person shooter based on the characters and creatures of the Alien franchise, particularly the film Aliens. It is slated for a fall 2012 release.

This is what is going to happen: I am going to say I will buy that Kyle Reese figure, and maybe some Aliens stuff. And then, I won't be able to find anything for under 20-25 bucks, and I will be sad and just go on living my life.

According to most of the blabbering online, there won't be any figures based on A: CM. The statement was allegedly a misunderstanding of NECAs plan to release figures of the Colonial Marines from Aliens, with Hicks already confirmed.

That would be nice. I'd like to get a Hicks figure with more than a few points of articulation. They should do Dutch, too...if they still have the Predator license.

After posting that last message, I went nuts and bought a bunch of Neca toys:

Alien Warrior (Aliens)
T-800 (Tech Noir/Battle Damage)
Predator City Hunter (Predator 2)
Robocop

I have pics, but my photobucket account is sandwiched because of those damn Prometheus caps.

More info on Neca's upcoming Alien stuff...most notably no video game toys, but yes to a Prometheus line!

Quote from: Neca's Website
Xenomorphs have been around us for over 30 years now. Many iterations have taken this aggressive race to become icons of Horror, Suspense, and even Adventure, and as so, caused many folks with an acute taste to want these creatures in their collections.

NECA’s made several Alien action figures, from almost all of the films in the franchise, including the most recent Aliens Vs Predator:Requiem. This year, we’re bringing even more figures, and we wanted to answer a few of your questions.

New Aliens Warrior Action Figure

From James Cameron’s “Aliens” film, we’re releasing an all new Warrior figure, with removable limbs, fully articulated, and about 9″ tall.

The 2 Colonial Marines

Aboard the warship Sulaco, Ripley is introduced to a team of Colonial Marines, one of which is Corporal Dwayne Hicks. This year, we’ll bring Hicks to life, fully articulated, at about 7″ tall, along with another Colonial Marine, which we’re not yet ready to reveal the identity of.

You can expect the Warrior Aliens to have clean and battle damaged versions and both blue and brown highlights for variety when army building your hive.

1/4 Scale Original Alien Figure

From the 1979 original Ridley Scott film, we’re preparing a release of the 1/4 scale Alien figure. This is the classic Xeno, with the clear dome. Yes – a gorgeously gross Classic Alien that stands over 22inches tall and is fully articulated.

We’ve done a Classic Alien 18-Inch Action Figure in the past, so expect improvements including the enormous figure packaged fully assembled and this Xeno will have new and improved deco over the original release from 2008.

About The Alien Queen Action Figure

Hey, we love the Queen too. She’s one of the scariest, meanest looking creatures in film history. But currently, she’s only in our wishlists. There’s a slight possibility we’ll get to her in 2013, but there’s nothing confirmed yet. One of the reasons we’re not getting to the Queen this year is because…

A Prometheus Line is Coming Up This Summer

We’re extremely excited about the upcoming film from Ridley Scott and have our hands full with a new line of figures. We’ll probably be able to show some Prometheus sculpts by the end of June.

Future For The Lines

We asked on Facebook and Google+ what fans wanted to know about the license and a lot of the questions were about its continuity, if we’re doing a full set of Colonials, etc..

Honestly, it all depends on how well sales go and what our production schedule permits. We are very excited to finally bring you Colonial Marines from Aliens and we hope to bring you a Queen in 2013.

As you’ve seen with Predators, when our fans love it and buy the figures, we expand the line and make more of them.

Did anyone think they would have all of the Lost Preds in figure form?

Kind of weird that they aren't doing Ripley. Though, I suppose we may get Hicks and Hudson, since Hudson will be an easy repaint of Hicks' body and a different head stuck on there. They like to re-use sculpts like a lot of toy companies. At any rate, I am looking forward to seeing pics of these things. My MacFarlane Hicks is so boring and limited in articulation.

I do hope they get round to producing a queen next year, preferably to the same scale as the 7" figures for the sake of consistency, as well as for being able to create a decent diorama. What I really want, that they haven't mentioned, is the dog alien!

Yeah, both Spike and the Queen would be nice. It makes me so mad that the McFarlane ones are so expensive. Especially since according to McFarlane, his toy lines were meant to bring fans affordable, movie-accurate toys. Even some of Neca's Predator line ('Anytime') are outrageously priced. You can buy a MOC 20-year-old vintage Alien figure for less than something that just came out last year or whatever.

The worst part about the McFarlane figures, is that they are not movie accurate in any way. They often appear to be someone else's interpretation of a design, as opposed to the actual design itself. The queen has the build and proportions of a T. rex, with wrinkly-looking skin, plus the jaws are out of proportion. Their dog and A:R figures remind me of rotting flesh, I have yet to find a single surface detail on the dog alien that actually exists on ADI's design!

The trouble with the NECA predators is more that certain figures are more sought-after than others, particularly Anytime, and it's taken me weeks to find one affordable enough to buy! The one (series 3 masked classic) that I got yesterday broke the second I tried to bend its' right arm, curiously the same as with my first Greyback figure. I trawled the 'Net looking for another, and bought that as a replacement. The initial release of the figure had the price at about the same as the others, it's just they all got snapped up by ebay sellers, who now force you to pay out the arse for one!

Yeah, I would expect the MSRP for the figures is all the same, it's just that fucking scalpers ruin it for everyone.
