A day or so behind, but working for a living sucks, so at any rate here is the TED2023 Peter Weyland speech: I really hope Guy Pearce has a sizable role in the film and not another The Hurt Locker cameo!

Haven't shown up here in ages, but I just had to after stumbling upon this video on Xenopedia. I haven't been this psyched for a movie in a very long time. Some interesting notes: - Apparently this guy succeeded Charles Bishop Weyland as CEO of Weyland Industrie, so AvP mythos is acknowledged and this film bridges the AvP and Alien films. Which makes me wonder if a) we'll hear anything about the Yutani Corporation, with which WI apparentlt hasn't made sweet love yet, and if the technological revolution Weyland is pursuing has anything to do with the Predator tech found in AvP:R and b) there'll be a Predator cameo. I doubt as we may not even see Aliens in the film, but a reversion of the Predator 2 cameo doesn't seem out of the question. - We already know there's an android named David in this film. This fits with the alphabetical naming of the androids in the Alien films: Ash, Bishop, Call and now David. This can't be coincidence. On a side norte, according to Xenopedia there's a Space Jockey cameo in AvP:R! What's funny is that the design in this pic shares some similarities with the Jockey helmet in the Prometheus trailer.

Considering the talk is 2023, and the movie takes place ~2073/2083, I doubt he'll have a significant role in the film proper.

Kind of weird casting if he doesn't play some kind of important part in the film...

- Apparently this guy succeeded Charles Bishop Weyland as CEO of Weyland Industrie, so AvP mythos is acknowledged and this film bridges the AvP and Alien films. If you view the source code for WeylandIndustries.com... "In the year 2023, the Weyland Corporation's legendary founder Peter Weyland gave one of the most important speeches in mankind's history. Join the Weyland Corporation in celebrating our founder's vision as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of his address to the TED conference." (Emphasis added) If he's the founder,it would seem CBW and AvP are assigned to canon purgatory.

He seemed to be hamming it up a little, for some reason I find it quite endearing.
I say he's hamming it up, but in my mind Weyland is doing it that way for the press, and wants to give off a larger-than-life persona that'll be remembered along with his work.

Currently seeking Jagermeister sponsorship. One'a these days Sean Pertwee's gonna be in a movie where he doesn't die and he's going to kill every motherfucker ever.

Yeah, take a look at Richard Branson or Steve Jobs. They turned it up a notch for showmanship.

Yeah, but CBW was founder of Weyland Industries, rather than Weyland Corp. Considering the talk is 2023, and the movie takes place ~2073/2083, I doubt he'll have a significant role in the film proper.
Well, Pierce said his role was small, but Scott allegedly said that Pearce was one of the main players. So I guess he doesn't have much screen time, but he's pretty important to the plot.

Maybe there will just be a framed photo on him in the Prometheus mess hall, ala Sam Walton and the break rooms at Wal-mart.

Well Peter Weyland obviously considers himself a god. So maybe he will he use his likeness as one of the robots. What better way to immortalize oneself. That would be one way that Guy would still have a significant role still in the film. Especially since there is 50 years between the speech and when the movie takes place.

It is most gratifying that your enthusiasm for our planet continues unabated. As a token of our appreciation, we hope you will enjoy the two thermonuclear missiles we've just sent to converge with your craft. To ensure ongoing quality of service, your death may be monitored for training purposes.

Wow. I have become something of a skeptic with everything, not talking just about the attitude to new addittions to the Aliens/Predators/AvP/whatever storylines, but I think lately it has become hard to make me enthusiastic about something, but this speech is brilliant. Peter Weyland! This is shaping better and better from everything I've heard this far.
As for the android speculation, I am up for anything. That guy certainly deserves more screen time, though if they went with the android idea, the robot's personality could be completely different than that of its "original model", which could be interesting challenge and chance to shine for the actor.
