The Mummy: Reboot
« on: April 04, 2012, 05:14:27 PM »

OK who wants yet another reboot of a recent average film??

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/BatFreak/news/?a=57429

Really? REALLY!!? 1999, 2001 and 2008, and they wanna reboot this already!! what's wrong with that trilogy? does no one have any remotely original ideas anymore?? I have always exaggerated about this, the fact that Hollywood has run out of ideas yet the evidence just keeps on coming and coming, utterly insane.

Is there any chance this might be a hands on effects creepy horror with proper makeup by someone like Rob Bottin or Rick Baker?? or is it gonna be yet more cgi shit rolled out over and over?

It could be done in a 'Evil Dead' 'Beetlejuice' dark horror comedy type way but we all know they won't do that because it HAS to be made for the younger audience so...don't get your hopes up.

what's wrong with that trilogy?

Well, you said yourself that it's average. So if somebody comes along with a better idea for a Mummy film - but without the continuity - why not just go for it?

Completely agree with the original idea thing.  But it's fucking tough to have an original idea. FX by Bottin or Baker is not original, for example, and harks back to late '70s, early '80s. Doing it in an Evil Dead/Beetlejuice way - well, again, that's a very '80s approach. Improving remakes by utilising the techniques of some golden era... well, that's just the same logic that leads to remakes being made in the first place.

I think we're screwed. Not just by the lack of originality of what's coming out of Hollywood, but by our incomprehension of originality.  We lust for the new, yet despise it when it happens.

I was kinda hoping for a more adult dark horror comedy along the lines of 'Army of Darkness' with hands on effects like Bottin or Baker.

Its not original but we haven't seen that more realistic craftsmanship for some time really, it would be much better than all out cgi monsters.

I'm just amazed at the fact they are rebooting it when the last film came out in 2008! its an average franchise but not that bad, I quite liked the third actually with the Oriental approach but Hollywood certainly isn't trying much anymore it seems.

As long as Brendan-fucking-Fraser is nowhere near this thing, why not? Seriously, what a douche. Every time I see his face I want to punch something. With that "something" preferably being his face, but anything in general will do.

And if The Hulk from 2003 can be rebooted in 2008, then why not The Mummy? Considering the 2003 Hulk was way better than The Mummy to begin with...

If they make it, you know...scary...then that's a worthy reason to reboot the fucker.

14 years = 2/3 years?

I dig The Mummy flicks (some more than others).

This could be cool too.

I loved the original remake. It took me on a fun adventure, with characters I like or loved to hate. I don't think the sequels managed to capture the sense of fun that original had.

That's not a remake though. It's a sequel to the remake from 1999.
