Well, they finally came in. My order of hero replica USCM M-40 grenades by SD Studios (the same SD Studios that made the much desired SD Studios Pulse Rifles some years back)! Construction is machined aluminum body, brass primer on the bottom, red plastic cap, and functional spring-loaded detonator. According to Stephen of SD Studios they are copied from an original prop as supplied by Harry Harris. ..And if I do say so myself: they are fucking sweet! ...enough talk. On to the pics. The trio fully dressed Topless Showing off the brass primer Another of the brass primer Spring-loaded detonator Close-up Since they are solid aluminum they have a nice weight to them and a very solid "clunk" when you set them down. "Don't touch that honey. It's dangerous."

How do we know that is really your hand? I think you should dress up as that asshole Gorman and the misses as Vasquez! Otherwise they look good.

You always were an asshole, Thedus. I was wondering how long it would be before that line came back at me. Nice score, mate! Thanks. How do we know that is really your hand? I think you should dress up as that asshole Gorman and the misses as Vasquez! Otherwise they look good. Truth be told I've been wanting to put together a uniform like Gorman's field fatigues for a while now. I just haven't had the time to do it. ..And yes that's my hand.

Be pretty easy really. I know a site or two that deals in authentic looking Nam' era replica OD duty greens, and caps too. ..And yes that's my hand. I know brother, I never doubt your images as being really you. But fuck man! It ain't real, stop white-knuckeling it so much!

Your pics show them off quite nicely. Makes them seem cooler than the pics I remember seeing before. "Don't touch that honey. It's dangerous." I am literally laughing out loud at the lack of punctuation there. Dangerous honey! (well, honey is corrosive, and can be deadly to children under one year of age)

The spring in the detonator is pretty tight. ...hence the white knuckles. ...Somehow I had a feeling you'd pick up on that. Your pics show them off quite nicely. Makes them seem cooler than the pics I remember seeing before. Thanks. ...Which pics did you see before? I am literally laughing out loud at the lack of punctuation there. Dangerous honey! (well, honey is corrosive, and can be deadly to children under one year of age) ROTFL! I didn't even notice that! Nice catch, Becks. (+)

They look bigger than the ones in the film. But that just might be me not paying attention.
There was something else I noticed, but I'll go rewatch it before I comment on it. It is nothing, just a " what if these were real " nitpick.

They were copied from an original prop, so the size should be the same (give or take a cm).
And I'm curious as to what the nit pick is. Fill us in after re-watching.

Eh screw it. If it's a real prop then here goes. OK, if it is a propelled grenade, fired from the M40 grenade launcher. Then where is the sepperation from casing to explosive projectiled grenade. see the crimp line half way on the round? Where does the explosive entity eject from the M40 round? Oh? And they come with an ammo box?

OK, if it is a propelled grenade, fired from the M40 grenade launcher. Then where is the sepperation from casing to explosive projectiled grenade. I don't know. It's likely that when ALIENS was being made, and the props constructed that this little aspect was overlooked. Oh? And they come with an ammo box? folks do make M-40 Grenade ammo boxes, but they hold 25 rounds... and I couldn't afford that many grenades! Spat makes awesome props, but these aren't made by him. Spat's M-40s are solid resin and don't have a spring loaded detonator. The replicas I bought are from SD Studios. The fact that Spat's are solid resin and cast in molds - as opposed to machined aluminum - is probably where they look different. Actually Spat offers an ammo box... but there again I just couldn't afford 25 grenades.

That is understandable. I am sure we could jiffy up a little three-round box to look good.
